‘... what you leave unused is a heavy burden; only what the moment creates can be used.’ Not only did Queen Luise select the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz as the central seat of the Grand Duchies, she also played a central role for the Kingdom of Prussia through her marriage to King Friedrich Wilhelm III. Incidentally, it was Frederick William II who commissioned construction of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin according to plans by Carl Gotthard Langhans.
